History of Chapter 615
AFSA Chapter 415 was established / chartered on February 1, 1971 in Bossier City, Louisiana to serve the needs of AFSA Members residing in that area and nearby Barksdale Air Force Base.

In 1978 the AFSA executive counsil implemented the "new" AFSA Division Concept, establishing 16 Divisions throughout the world and grouping chapters under the appropriate divisional jurisdiction. In that reorganization, Chapter 415 was placed in the new Divsion 6 and renumber Chapter 615 without change of location.

The intial charter issued to Chapter 415 is still valid and recognized by the International Air Force Sergeants Asssociation as the founding document for AFSA Chapter 615. Over the years the chapter has acquired the name of one of AFSA's foremost early leaders, Past President Leon Donnelly and has acquired a reputation as a strong, innovated and committed member of AFSA.

President's Corner

W elcome to the Air Force Sergeant’s Association, Chapter 615, Leon Donnelly Chapter.  It is indeed an honor and a privilege to serve as your Chapter President for 2010.

I recently had the privilege of working with last year’s President, David Johnson, and a group of AFSA and Airmen Leadership School (ALS) student volunteers during some renovation of our AFSA heritage room at the school.   Looking at the trophy and awards, case one couldn’t help but be reminded of the celebrated history of AFSA Chapter 615, not only locally, but nationally and internationally.  Indeed, this chapter has a storied and rich history.

My ties to Chapter 615 include prior assignments as Legislative Trustee and 2004-2005 Chapter President.  I’m a 24 year active duty service member, and am currently in the 2nd Maintenance Group as Weapons Standardization Superintendent.  I’ve been married to Jeanetta Thomas for 23+ years; we have one daughter name Tori.

My number one goal is to continue to increase chapter membership and retention.  As stated on the back of our AFSA membership cards, “The Air Force Sergeants Association can only be as strong and effective as its membership.  In multiplying its strengths, the Association multiplies the potential benefits available to you, your family, the U.S. Air Force, and the community.”

Secondly, I want to ensure all chapter members are continually informed and kept up to date on all relevant legislative issues and chapter events, both through electronic and print media.  Our website is filled with all the information and links you will need to stay informed.  We also have an informative quarterly newsletter “The Retrospect” available to all active AFSA Chapter 615/A615 members.

I am excited about the opportunities and challenges of the upcoming year.  Please take the time to view our incoming Executive Council posted on our website.  We all look forward to making this another banner year for AFSA Chapter 615.

I extend to you my personal invitation to our next general membership meeting held on the last Tuesday of each month at 1800 hours at the Barksdale AFB Stripes Lounge.  Feel free to send me any comments, concerns, or suggestions at: President@AFSACHAPTER615.ORG

Chapter 615 Impact

We have made a huge impact both on and off base. This year the chapter devoted more than 6,500 volunteer hours and donated more than $44K towards base related activities and more than $25K towards community activities and events. Not only have we touched the local base and community, but we have also touched other communities far away from Barksdale. Our generosity has helped an Afghan village, the Air Force Enlisted Village, our fellow AFSA Chapters, and many others. We sponsor just about every activity or awards event on base. We exceeded our AFSA recruiting goals and had three members reach Sky-High status...a first for this chapter. Getting the word out through electronic means has been positive for this chapter. We are the most giving organization on the base, whether it's visits to VA hospital, nursing homes for the elderly, or picnics for Airman, Icebreakers for ALS to donations for charitable causes, we have a heart of gold. Our record speaks for itself, our outstanding contributions are many and our volunteer spirit is high.
